Dante & Keats

Brothers, Dante and Keats, aka The Literary Duo, have been wonderful foster pups. We picked them up in Seattle in November and during the trip to Spokane discovered they’re good travelers.
Dante recently had dental and a benign lump taken off his leg. He’s on Zonisamide two times a day for seizures and has not had a seizure since arriving. Dante is the rough and tumble of the two. His eyes are bright and happy. He’s a stocky boy and a tad overweight which we’re working on. Winter arrived shortly after the boys did - chasing squirrels, hiking and walks are on hold for now. When the weather warms we hope his svelte IG shape will emerge.
Dante is chock full of personality. He enjoys squeaky tennis balls/stuffies and his tiny Kong (all courtesy of his prior foster mom). He loves evening play time so he can pounce on my hand or toss the squeaky ball at me to throw.
Keats is the sensitive soul of the two. His eyes are expressive. He has one remaining tooth but that doesn’t keep this boy from devouring food with gusto or playing with toys. He may not win the tug-of-war, but he gives Dante a good run for his doggie biscuit. Keats is a stealth attacker of toys, happily leaping on stuffies, barking at the squeaky ball. He’s had a minor set back in his potty habits. We’re now in retraining mode and watching his cues. He doesn’t paw the door knob or bark like the others; he simply walks out of the room and expects you to follow. We’ve been diligently following him and his cues ever since.
The two are on a combination of canned and slightly moistened dry Wellness dog food two times a day. They get along with our two IG’s Sam and Lucky and love to burrow under blankets. They thrive on human attention, voice and touch, are well socialized and crate trained.
As with all beings, Dante and Keats come with baggage: they’re older; they’re a package deal; Keats has only one tooth (his food bowl would beg to differ) and Dante is on life-long medication for seizures. But these baggage claims are miniscule when viewed through another prism.
Older dogs know their manners. The bouncy, chewy, “ok, who did that?” days are over. Two is a blessing. Canines, by virtue of wolf DNA, are pack animals. No teeth? Doesn’t faze them. Taking medication? That’s why wet food, peanut butter and hot dogs were created.
Dante and Keats have been bonded brothers for almost eleven years. If would be best for them that this bond be kept intact and they be adopted together; after all they are The Literary Duo. They are currently being fostered in Spokane, Washington.
